How reliably can a material be classified as a nanomaterial? Available particle-sizing techniques at work
ABSTRACT Currently established and projected regulatory frameworks require the classification of materials (whether nano or non-nano) as specified by respective definitions, most of which are based on the size of the constituent particles. This brings up the question if currently available techniques for particle size determination are capable of reliably classifying materials that potentially ...
متن کاملFenugreek: Potential Applications as a Functional Food and Nutraceutical
Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum), native to southern Europe and Asia, is an annual herb with white flowers and hard, yellowish brown and angular seeds, known from ancient times, for nutritional value beside of its medicinal effects. Fenugreek seeds are rich source of gum, fiber, alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and volatile content. Due to its high content of fiber, fenugreek could be...
متن کاملGenet Variation of Ectomycorrhizal Suillus granulatus Fruiting Bodies in Pinus strobus Stands.
The genets of Suillus granulatus in a Pinus strobus stand (13 m × 60 m) were identified using random amplified polymorphic DNA molecular markers and the DNA of mushrooms that fruited for two years, and variations in genet size and distribution were analyzed. From a total of 116 mushrooms, 73 genets were identified and were grouped into three locations. The genets of mushrooms in close proximity...
متن کاملCan neonates born at 34 weeks be classified as late preterm?
OBJECTIVES In recent years, much attention has been given to infants born prematurely, at 34 0/7 to 36 6/7 weeks of gestation (WG), which have been classified as 'late preterm'. Neonates from that subgroup are less physiologically and metabolically mature than term infants. The aim of the study was to determine whether infants born at 34WG can be classified as 'late preterm' or 'preterm' newbor...
متن کاملVariation in Sodium Chloride Resistance of Cenococcum geophilum and Suillus granulatus Isolates in Liquid Culture
We studied the resistance of Cenococcum geophilum and Suillus granulatus isolates to NaCl during growth under axenic culture conditions. C. geophilum isolates displayed variations in NaCl resistance; mycelial growth of most isolates was inhibited above 200mM. All isolates of S. granulatus were tolerant to high NaCl content.
